DPL is owed $13M

DPL Secretary Oscar M. Babauta said the department has begun holding talks with lessees to ensure that they meet their dues at a rate that they can afford at the moment.

“We have $13 million receivables. We’re making arrangements to make collections,” Babauta told the Variety in an interview.

He said DPL is also in the red because its tenants are not paying on time.

He remains hopeful, however, that things will turn for the better with the Guam military buildup pushing through.

He said there is a chance the buildup will revive the real estate market in the CNMI with some military retirees possibly opting to resettle here.

“We’re looking forward to a brighter year,” he added.
