School principal Jonas Barcinas said the course will also give students a taste of the JROTC program in high school and what actual military life will be.
“Specialist Barbes selected students out of the three PE classes that we have. The students he chose had a choice to either stick to the PE class or to transfer over to his training sessions,” Barcinas said.
Yesterday was the second day of training for the future cadets.
“They have a long way to go,” Barbes told Variety. “As of today I have about 24 students who are willing to learn the basic drills but I have yet to finalize my list because there will be more wanting to join as the week progresses.
It’s only the beginning.”
When asked why the training started so late into the semester, Berbes replied: “Mr. Barcinas wanted to give the kids time to adjust to their schedules first. This was when he called me to start the leadership course.”
The students will be working with Berbes for the rest of the school year.
