In a report, CUC said these projects include the replacement of its antiquated, rundown and unsafe vehicle fleet; the redesign of transmission and distribution using national Rural Utility Service standards; the replacement and installation of insulators, transformers, overcurrent protection, sectionalizers and the installation of efficient LED street lightning.
“The skills of the linemen cannot be honed when the equipment is not there for them to use or be trained on,” Malae said.
He said CUC plans to hire a distribution engineer to be in charge of the design and redesign of the system and to work closely with the linemen.
CUC’s power transmission and distribution system is “fairly strong,” he added.
He said the typhoon season is over but CUC has already ordered materials and new equipment to prepare for the next season.
CUC should not just sit back and wait for something to fail, he added.
