‘Paskong Pinoy’ draws big crowd

“It was very successful and the spirit of Christmas was really felt by the participants despite their many challenges in life,” she said.

Philippine Consul General Medardo Macaraeg said there’s no reason people should not celebrate Christmas despite the hardship they are facing.

It is important for the Filipino community to observe Christmas even in their own small way so they can share whatever blessings they have, he said.

“The celebration shows that the people trust God,” he added.

Yana said more people joined this year’s event.

“People are really very happy and many children joined the games because we had lots of prizes,” she said.

There were also many performers, she added.

There were eight entries in the lantern making contest, four for the Belen or Nativity scene, three contestants for the singing contest for children 8 to 12 years old, and two groups in the choral contest.

UFO, Yana said, is very grateful to all the sponsors, particularly the Tan Siu Lin Foundation.

The Paskong Pinoy 2010 celebration was also supported by the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Overseas Labor Organization and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
