Associate Judge Perry B. Inos scheduled the sentencing of Juan Camacho Taitano for Feb. 1, 2011.
Taitano was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after yesterday’s hearing.
Prior to the hearing, Assistant Attorney General Eli Golob, the prosecutor, and Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke, the defendant’s counsel, informed the court that Taitano would change his not guilty plea.
Blumel Ada of the Victim’s Advocate Office of the Attorney General’s Office stated that the “victim(s)…were notified of the terms of [the] proposed settlement or reasonable efforts were made to notify the victims.”
According to the plea agreement, Taitano sexually abused two minors, 10 and 13 years old, on or about March 6, 2010 at a residence in Tanapag.
At the time of the incident, the victims’ mother was at work.
On March 8, 2010, Taitano, who had a part-time job on a fishing boat, was arrested by local police and U.S. Coast Guard personnel.
Taitano was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, and two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
