Prayer vigil, petition signing tomorrow

Rabby Syed, the group’s leader, said among those who have confirmed their participation are Millie Carroll of the Saipan Methodist Church in Chalan Kanoa, the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ, the Hindu community and the Muslim community.

“Everything is now ready for the prayer vigil,” he said, adding that some “mainlanders and indigenous” will also join them.

Organizers, on behalf of guest workers, will ask President Obama to take administrative action in extending parole-in-place protection to the legal aliens in the CNMI.

Since the group announced the online petition signing, Syed said they have gathered more than 400 signatures on Wendy Doromal’s “Unheardnomore” blogsite.

United Workers Movement-NMI adviser Manzurul Alam is now on Tinian to help gather signatures for the petition, Syed said.

Syed said their campaign will end on Dec. 9 and the petition will then be handed to federal officials in Washington, D.C.

Aside from the petition, their group will also write a letter to Obama, he added.
