San Antonio school celebrates Octopus Day

The octopus is the school’s mascot and the activity started with sack races, ball-between-legs race, relay race, balancing walk race, tug-o-war, and the obstacle race.

The event is held every quarter to promote wellness and healthy living. SAES also hosts  dance/aerobic classes every Monday and Thursday through the Rose Dance School of Saipan.

SAES said it is providing a venue to allow parents and community members an opportunity to pursue healthy lifestyle alternatives.

It is best to promote health and fitness at an early age, as children tend to adopt certain lifelong behavioral habits as adults based on what they had learned as children, the school stated.

The national obesity rate is 60.8 percent compared to the CNMI’s  59 percent.

The CNMI’s diabetes rate of 9 percent surpasses the national rate of 8.3 percent.
