Islander Rent-a-Car turns 26 Marfega Building’s inauguration today

Today, Islander Rent-a-Car celebrates its 26th years of service to the islands of Saipan, Tinian, Rota and Guam — proof of almost three decades of providing the best service and keeping true to its promise of  “riding with us is a plus!

Getting around the islands in style is never a problem, with the company’s over a hundred cars for hire, including an extensive line of Toyota sedans, SUVs and mini-vans. Marfega Building inauguration today

Today marks an important milestone for Marfega Trading Company as they formally open the new building located at the corner of Flame Tree Avenue at the Saipan International Airport.

The new office and commercial building was finished earlier this month but they decided to hold the grand opening today, in time with the 26th anniversary of the Islander Rent-a-Car services.

The new Marfega Building boasts of spacious parking lot, comfortable offices and houses the Island Rent-a-Car main office, Western Union Money Transfer, the ASKS Fashion house, and the president’s office.

At 6 p.m. today, supporters, friends, employees and business partners will witness the grand opening of the company’s proof of success despite the economic crunch that spared no one.

Looking back

Established in 1984, Marfega Trading Co. Inc. is a woman-owned company under Norma M. Marfega. The company started doing business as an automobile rental company — the Islander Rent-a-Car, and the ASKS Fashion and Salon. With Marfega’s excellent business skills, the company flourished and expanded into other businesses. The CNMI Air Conditioning and Refrigeration was established later.

The company acquired the Dandan Auto Shop. Marfega Trading’s latest addition to its business operations is becoming an authorized agent for Western Union Money Transfer.

Marfega Trading has come a long way from its humble beginnings — and they owe their success to the patronage and continuous support of their clients from both the government and private sectors and from their business partners who have remained faithful to the company.

ASKS Fashion and Salon

ASKS Fashion and Salon is a combination of beauty salon, dress shop and tailoring, retailing of general merchandise. CNMI Air Conditioning & Refrigeration

Established in July 2005, this new business offers air conditioning service and refrigeration service, installation, equipment and parts sales. Since it opened, the company has built and is expanding its customer base that covers clients from residential, commercial, schools, restaurants, local as well as government projects and federal programs. Established in January 1994, the Dandan Auto Shop services car body and air condition repair, maintenance and general repairs of automobiles. Islander Mini-Mart

Western Union Money Transfer

Providing access to its customers in sending and collecting money from all over the world are the three Western Union outlets the company owned. The main outlet is housed inside the new Marfega Building, while the two outlets are at the Islander Mini-Mart and at the ASKS Salon in Garapan.

About the president

Norma M. Marfega is an accounting graduate from Aquinas University in Albay, Bicol Province, Philippines. After getting married to an American businessman, Marfega used her over 20 years of experience in the various fields of business that gave birth to the Marfega Trading Co. Inc.

Marfega said getting to where she is now had been one tough climb. She owes the success of her business to focusing on the needs of the customers, by “listening to them and giving them what they want.”
