Hotel cook wakes up with lacerations on face

The victim’s name is being withheld “due to the nature of the case and the serious injuries [he] sustained,” according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. said

Detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau “are still working on this incident especially because there are no known suspect(s) or motive,” Blas said in an e-mail to the Variety.

On Oct. 29, 2010, at about 4:05 a.m., DPS received a call regarding an assault with a dangerous weapon incident that occurred on the second floor of a barracks on Mafuti Street in San Antonio.

Medics were also dispatched to the scene due to the serious injuries the victim sustained from the assault, Blas said.

He said the victim was asleep in his room and “woke up with the feeling of pain on his facial area.”

“Victim does not know how he got his injuries and he did not see the person who assaulted him,” Blas said.

“The victim felt his face with his hands and learned that he was bleeding badly. The victim panicked and started pounding on the wall of his room, at the same time calling for help,” Blas added.

The victim’s friends who were in an adjacent room helped him, and called police for assistance.

Medics treated the victim at the scene and transported him to the Commonwealth Health Center for further treatment, Blas said.

The case is still under investigation.

The department, Blas said, is asking the community’s assistance to call the Crime Stoppers tips line at 234-7272 for any information regarding the case.

Callers need not identify themselves and Crime Stoppers pays up to a $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
