BREAKING NEWS: Man gets 8 years for sexual abuse of minors

A JUDGE on Friday sentenced a 46-year-old man to eight years imprisonment for sexually abusing three boys at an Internet café last March.

Mark Thomas Doyle lured his three victims — who were 12 and 13 years old — with money.

The victims were abused in the men’s room of the Internet café.

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman approved the plea agreement signed by Doyle who admitted two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.

For count one, Wiseman sentenced Doyle to 12 years imprisonment, four years of which will be suspended.

For count two, Wiseman also sentenced Doyle to 12 years in jail, four years of which will be suspended with credit for time served since March.

Both sentences will run concurrently, Wiseman said, adding that the eight years that Doyle will serve is the mandatory term.

After the change of plea hearing, Wiseman remanded Doyle to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

When released from prison on March 9, 2018, Doyle will be placed on supervised probation for five years under the direction and supervision of the Adult Probation Office, Wiseman said.

Doyle was also required to write a 45-word letter of apology to the three victims to be delivered through the Adult Probation Office within 30 days after sentencing.

Doyle was ordered to have no contact with his victims.

Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher prosecuted the case while Doyle was represented by Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig.

Doyle will undergo HIV testing, register as a sex offender, and obey all CNMI and federal laws.

He will report to the Community Guidance Center to undergo initial evaluation, and will obtain and abide by any recommended course of treatment.

Doyle will perform 200 hours of community work service, pay a $100 fine, a $100 special assessment fee and a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.
