Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman required Benedicto Tenorio Lizama to post $250 cash, or 5 percent, of the $5,000 bail earlier set by Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona.
Lizama posted the remaining $4,750 as appearance bond during his initial court appearance yesterday.
He was charged with illegal possession and trafficking of a controlled substance — marijuana.
Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing is prosecuting the case while the court appointed Assistant Public Defender Adam Miles to represent Lizama.
On Oct. 17, 2010, Drug Enforcement Task Force Detective Sean White said he and Detective Roque Camacho confirmed that the defendant was growing marijuana plant, about three inches above a tin wall adjacent to Lizama’s semi-concrete house near the San Roque cemetery.
White said their office earlier got a tip from a concerned citizen.
Judge Manglona issued an arrest and search warrant yesterday morning.
Lizama was sentenced to five years imprisonment, all suspended, for aggravated assault and battery in 1989.
