Saipan Awaodori team opens registration for 2010-2011

Sonia Siwa of Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. said  students and other young people interested to join the team in Koblerville area can pick up registration forms from Vernon Manglona at the Koblerville Youth Center.

“Registration for 2010-2011 has started but we are urging new and existing members of the Awaodori team to pick up and fill out their application forms now,” Siwa said.

Existing members have to renew their registration.

Siwa said the Saipan Awaodori Team used to have about 50 members from Koblerville, Gualo Rai and Tanapag but the number increased to over 60 during the summer.

“We encourage those kids who are dedicated and are committed to practice and work with the team regularly,” she said.

The Saipan Awaodori team regularly participates at the Flame Tree Arts Festival, the Liberation Day parade and other island events. The best dancers are chosen each year and sent to Japan to participate with over 10,000 other dancers in the annual Awaodori Festival in Koenji.

Last month, eight members of the Saipan Awaodori team participated in the Awaodori Festival with the Tokyo Tensuiren group, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

For interested applicants in the Gualo Rai and Tanapag areas, registration forms are available at Kinpachi Restaurant every day.
