Team Jacob tops RBC tournament

Each winning team was awarded a basketball provided by All-Star Sporting Goods, three $30 gift certificates from the Rocksteady Shop, three T-shirts provided by EZ-Outlet, and $30 cash prize.

The tournament followed through with two five-minute halves and a two-minute halftime break.

Each team was allowed one timeout per half. Before the game starts, instead of a jump ball, a player from either team shoots at the top of the key to see which team gets possession of the ball first to start the competition.

When a player misses a shot whoever gets possession of the ball through the rebound must take it back from the top of the three-point line for a fair play.

After a successful shot has been made, the opponent of that team then gets possession of the ball obligating him/her to take it back to the half court line for fair play once again much like the regular rule of basketball when a player makes a shot opponent must take the ball out to the baseline.

The U19 Rollers Basketball Club members were the tournament’s referees, scorekeepers, and table officials during the two-day event.

The Boys U19 Champion Team Jacob was made up of Jon Paulo Cenir, John Darag, Erick Dela Rosa, and Savali Talalemotu; they defeated the G-Ballers to sweep the U19 finals.

The Bastosss lady champions, made up of Marie Javier, Lalaine Pagarao, and Ira Palero, defeated Za Rookies, 18-13, and also went undefeated in the tourney.

The Boys U15 champion Complex team is composed of Jack Aranda, Jaymark DeGuzman, Nevin Salem, and Jed Villanueva. Complex dominated the Blue Ballers, 24-5, to add an exclamation point on their perfect finish.

The Rollers Basketball Club also plans to put on more fundraising ideas next month like a family themed tournament where all teams will be primarily made up of family members. Another 3-on-3 tourney may also take place as a result of last weekend’s strong turnout.

The purpose of last weekend’s tournament was to help RBC raise funds for their trip to Guam in November, where they will compete in the 4th Annual Barrigada MPC Thanksgiving Tournament.

Special thanks are extended out to: All Star Sporting Goods, EZ Outlet, Rocksteady Shop, The Athletes Foot, and the Pacific Trading Co.
