“Assistant Secretary Babauta has demonstrated with this significant grant of funds for water that he understands the toll the lack of 24-hour water has on Saipan families,” said Sablan
“He also demonstrated that the United States maintains its commitment in the Covenant to assist the Northern Marianas reach a U.S. standard of living.”
Saipan is the only urban area of the U.S. where households do not have access to drinking water around the clock, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
“I look forward to continuing to work cooperatively and collaboratively with Assistant Secretary Babauta, with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, and with other federal officials to improve conditions for the people of the Northern Mariana Islands,” Congressman Sablan said.
