The Ebisuyas dominated through most of the game, edging their foes by 10 points in the second and third quarter. Using his size to manage the ball, Ebisuya’s Banjo Basilla constantly fought with Edwin Santos for the rebound.

Konflikts clobber Chow Queen in finals

Things weren’t over yet in the UFO league’s open division when the MAFEA – Ali’i Konflikts defeated the MDX – Chow Queens in game one of their championship series.

One stop closer to the trophy, the Konflikts remained in control even with Elmer Esdrelon’s absence in the late second half.

The game intensified in the fourth quarter, when Chow Queen’s Wowie Abuel was injured after being knocked over by Konflikt’s Jomar Tumaquip.

With the clock at zero in the time of Abuel’s incident, it was decided that both teams would be bringing their 84-84 tie in overtime.

The Chow Queens used size to their advantage after putting Kelvin Fitial with Banjo Basilla and Glen Aquino. To recover their lost points, Dave Sablan was put to play in the final quarter, driving acrobatic layups past Konflikt’s Darwin Barbo.

The Konflikts sent Badong Camacho in place of Esdrelon during overtime, while Bernard Aquino protected the ball from Chow Queen. On a collision course with Fitial, Aquino backed out and tossed a three-pointer instead.

Aquino eagerly fought for possession and was fouled several times.

Tumaquip was in risk of fouling out after crashing with Sablan. He was forced to play safe, while Edmark Mendoza and Melvin Capalad made their baskets.

Even with Tamayo joining Sablan and Kae Bernardo on the court, the Konflikts kept their steady lead.

The Chow Queens had their chance to win in the fourth quarter, when Tamayo pulled the team one point ahead.

Darwin Barbo eventually tied the match after landing one of his two free throws.

To gain the title, the Konflikts must win in tonight’s second game of the championship series.

A victory for the Chow Queens however, would bring both teams to third game on Saturday.

This has been Chow Queen’s second loss since their first defeat against SIP – Mobil in the league’s regular season.
