Fran Castro of MINA yesterday said starting at 12 noon today, trees will be available for pick-up from the MINA office.
“Anyone can pick up a tree and plant it anywhere he or she wants to on island,” Castro said.
Individuals who cannot pick up trees today can do it on Sunday morning from 8:30 to 12 noon, or until the 350 trees for planting have all been picked up.
Those who are unable to pick up the trees for planting can get a voucher for $10 at the MINA office and redeem it for any tree of their choice from the Wireless Ridge nursery on Capital Hill, the Tropical Gardens at the Saipan Zoo in As Mahetog, and from the Bureau of Plant Industry nursery in Kagman.
“We need to plant 350 trees on 10/10/10 or October 10, 2010 for the health of our planet,” Castro said.
This is one of the worldwide activities being conducted on Sunday.
“Other places have different projects, but every project involves the 350 number,” she said.
“Scientists say that 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity, that’s where the number is drawn out,” she said.
