Senate commends Angelray

Senate Resolution 17-24 described the 16-year-old Angelray as “a remarkable person [whose] generosity serves as inspiration to all citizens.”

Diagnosed with brain cancer four years ago, Angelray “never stopped showing a positive outlook in life, which deserves the highest recognition,” said Sen. Ralph DLG. Torres, R-Saipan and author of the resolution.

Sen. Juan M. Ayuyu, Ind.-Rota, said recognizing individuals like Angelray should continue so they may become role models in the community.

After spending almost a year at a Hawaii hospital , Angelray came back to Saipan and donated four truckloads of toys and books to the young patients of the Commonwealth Health Center last year.

With help from the Reach Out Pacific non-profit organization and Hawaii Rep. Glenn Wakai, he again donated more toys, television sets, electronic game units and ventilators to the CNMI’s only hospital.

Angelray provided more donations in the following months — books to the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library; clothes and toys to the Division of Youth Services; hard-bound journals to Northern Marianas College; and seven boxes of books to the CNMI Autism Society.

Angelray is the first recipient of the DYS certificate of recognition for his volunteer community work.

Sen. Jovita M. Taimanao, Ind.-Rota, who had the chance to meet Angelray when she was working at the medical referral office on Guam, said her life was touched by the teenager.

Torres said they will schedule an official presentation of the resolution soon.
