The Kids Cove triumphed against the MDX-PTC Monsters, beating them by 83-79. Both evenly matched teams resulted in a 69-69 deadlock by the final quarter, bringing the game into overtime.
Burnt out from the second half, the Monsters had difficulty penetrating through the Kids Coves’ defense.
Kids Cove’s James Abuy and Jun Alipio drove powerful lay ups through Tabora and Art Trajano, tallying an extra four points for the team.
A more aggressive tactic from the Monsters led to several fouls in the game’s final minutes. This was an advantage to the Kids Coves, who edged their opponents with several free throws.
Racking up 35 points for the Monsters, Jun Tabora scored the highest in the match.
Despite being behind in the second quarter, the Kids Coves’ consistency in the offense eventually broke through the Monsters.
The Ebisuyas followed the Kids Coves with a victory of their own after defeating the Cabalen – Wings Travels 87-80.
A smaller number of players became a double-edged sword for the Ebisuyas. Having no substitutes gave the team a chance to focus on Francis Rebuyon and Ernie Moises in the offense. The team thrived on both players’ combination of lay ups and free throws, which worked efficiently against Wings’ Robert Guiang and Tony Diaz.
Guiang brought the Wings Travels ahead in the second quarter, but was stopped by Ebisuya’s Joe Tudela and Rebuyon.
Tudela played safe in the second quarter after gaining his fourth personal foul. Moises and Basilla secured their team’s spot in the semis after ending the final quarter with two three-pointers.
