Man arrested for assaulting partner

Detective Peter A. Aldan said Ramon Igisaiar Okaruru got mad after a neighbor asked for a betelnut from the victim on Sunday at about 11:58 a.m.

Okaruru is being held on the charges of disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

At the time of the incident, Okaruru was sleeping in their bedroom at Upper MIHA in Garapan.

After the victim returned to their bed, Okaruru suddenly got mad and had an argument with her.

In the process, Okaruru punched the victim on the back of her left shoulder and walked out of the house, police said.

The victim locked  the house, but Okaruru was able to enter it by removing the glass louvers.

Police said Okaruru grabbed the cup that the victim used to make her coffee and splashed its contents on the back of the victim who was then running out of the door.

Okaruru then threw the  cup at the victim,  hitting her on the back, police said.

In the process, the victim was knocked to the ground.

Okaruru then grabbed the victim’s hair and pulled her back to the house, police said.

“Ramon grabbed her neck and tried to choke [the victim] but [she] pushed him away,” police added.

Medics brought the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center where she was treated for laceration on the back of the head.

But the emergency room physician could not stitch the wound because it was damaged from the impact of the glass cup, police said.

Okaruru was arrested by responding patrol officers Tyron Teregeyo and Isapen Bokuku.

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman raised to $25,000 the original $10,000 cash bail he imposed on Okaruru.

The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial court appearance yesterday afternoon.

Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher represented the government while Assistant Public Defender Mike Brown was appointed as Okaruru’s counsel.
