Letter to the Editor: Potentially misleading

In 2009, MAl received and responded to a competitively bid request for proposals which was publicly announced by the CNMI government. We are pleased to have been selected by the CNMI for these desk audits, and believe this selection was based on MAl’s 34 years of experience in performing efficiency and productivity assessments and desk audits of government organizations. These are among the core services that MAl performs as a management consulting firm; in fact, we have done over 900 projects of this type over the past three decades.

We are also pleased that Ms. Lynn Knight, a former CNMI resident, joined our office in Virginia last year. We value the expertise in tourism, economic development, and strategic planning she brings to our staff. However, she did not participate in writing the desk audit proposal, was not bid as a member of the desk audit team, and did not participate in these studies, because this is not her area of focus. MAl’s project team for the desk audits was identified in our proposal to the CNMI government, and included project managers and analysts experienced in precisely the type of study sought by the CNMI.

Another article identified Mr. Edward Arriola as our registered agent in the CNMI and made reference to his employment at Tan Holdings. Mr. Arriola was selected as our agent after we considered several local candidates. His association with MAl is as an individual and his employment with Tan Holdings had no bearing on our decision. With all due respect to Tan Holdings, there is no connection between MAl and that firm.

MAl is an independently owned and operated company that hires its employees strictly for the skills and knowledge that they can bring to our work. We have a long-standing commitment to doing business in the Pacific region and hope our expertise can be of value to island communities.

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and his administration, as well as the people of the CNMI.
