“There is already a mechanism in place for the use of this money,” the Committee on Ways and Means and Financial Matters said.
Palau’s PAN Act which was passed in 2003 aims to establish a nationwide network of terrestrial and marine protected areas. Its goal is to protect Palau’s biodiversity while assisting local Marine Protected Areas.
Earlier, the House version of FY2011 measure also wanted the immediate disbursement of PAN Funds.
Although the PAN Fund was recently created to officially administer and disburse funding of the Palau PAN, the House Committee on Ways and Means Financial Matters finds that there has been a lengthy delay in the implementation of support for the PAN.
