The haunted house is open to people of all ages. Ticket prices are $1 for NMC students with valid student I.D.s, $2 for children 5-12 years of age, and $3 for adults or those 13 years of age and older.
This event is part of the Proa Music Society’s efforts to raise funds for instruments, a sound system, and club t-shirts for members. The mission of the recently chartered music club is to assist NMC students develop their musical skills and talents, and to enhance musical expression at NMC.

Conservation panel meeting today
THE Saipan Island Committee of the Marianas Resource Conservation & Development Council will hold a meeting on Monday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Natural Resources Conservation Service office in Garapan, on Beach Road.
The agenda will include discussion of the following subjects: the current and future status of the Beach Road solar restroom project; a proposed memorandum of understanding between Beautify CNMI and RC&D; and open discussion on proposals new projects, including a fishing co-op and marine/environmental science center.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate.

National Novel-Writing Month
NOVEMBER is National Novel-Writing Month. In 30 days, the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel. It’s a madcap experience that produces results.
Last year, writers in Guam and Saipan wrote 999,226 words during NaNoWriMo.
There will be a meet and greet on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at Oleai Beach Bar and Grill.
Writers age 13 and older can join the world-wide write-in at www.nanowrimo.org and set your region to “Elsewhere::Micronesia” for local information.
Writers under age 13 can join the Young Writers Program at http://ywp.nanowrimo.org.
There is no charge to sign up — the only cost is your writing effort. But your novel-writing must wait until Nov. 1, when the fun starts.
Parent Literacy Night at Saipan Southern High School
(SSHS) — Saipan Southern High School held its first Parent Literacy Night on Friday evening. The language arts department hosted the event in collaboration with SSHS Book Club.
Rebecca Read, Jonathan Cabrera and Michele Rasa modeled reading by read-aloud and book talk to attending parents. Sudi Napalan shared about the reading programs and services in the school library as well as resources including the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.
“Parental literacy is very important on a child. Parents have strong influence on their child’s literacy especially when they show positive experience in reading and writing,” shares Sudi Napalan. “Parent Literacy program complements our efforts in school.”
The Parent Literacy event concluded the Teen Read Week celebration of Saipan Southern High School.
