Commerce Secretary Michael Ada said they planned to hold the summit next month but has to postpone it until the keynote speaker they are planning to invite becomes available.
He said they have invited the former mayor of Honolulu, Muliufi Francis “Mufi” Hannemann, to be the summit’s keynote speaker.
“Hannemann’s extensive knowledge and experience in running the biggest island jurisdiction is a valuable asset which we can all learn a lot from,” Ada said.
The summit may be held in the second or third week of January 2011.
Ada said they will invite speakers from educational tourism, agriculture, aquaculture, and call center industries.
In April last year, the CNMI hosted the first economic summit which discussed major issues affecting the islands such as the military buildup on Guam and alternative industries.
