NMI economic crisis may turn off CUC’s potential applicants

CUC human resources manager Frankie Cepeda said  one applicant inquired about the economic situation on island.

He believes  that the other off-island applicants  are also trying to learn more about the CNMI.

CUC, however, has several applicants for its job vacancy openings, particularly for those positions mandated by the federal stipulated orders.

CUC is exempted from the paycuts implemented by the central government, Cepeda said.

CUC cannot afford to lose its employees with certifications, he added.

But CUC is also trying to manage its financial resources carefully, he said.

Last July, CUC announced vacancies for 18 positions, which included those for senior engineer, drinking water and wastewater division manager and one wastewater treatment plant operations supervisor.

Cepeda said some of the newly hires are now awaiting their contracts from the Attorney General’s Office.

For the position of senior engineer, he said they may reopen the job vacancy announcement, or JVA, because the only applicant turned down the offer.

CUC, he said, will soon have JVAs for the power division.
