Rota’s Women in Action will implement other similar projects for the rest of the year, according to the mayor’s wife, Estrella Mendiola, who heads the group.
She said they started early in the morning and painted white the flower planter that stretched from the airport to the nearby villages.
Mendiola said despite the heat, there were a lot of volunteers.
Among those who joined were Rep. Teresita A. Santos, Ind.-Rota, Rota Casino Gaming Commission Chairwoman Laura Manglona and Finance Resident Director Stacey Atalig.
Santos flew to Rota on Friday to join the Women in Action which, she said, continues to empower the island’s women.
Atalig urges women to join them in future activities.
Manglona said the beautification project coincided with the preparation for the fiesta on Oct. 10.
She said their group aims to keep women on Rota “in action.”
