The Saipan Blues Festival is dedicated to Stevie’s memory and his music.
Performing live at Godfather’s will be Saipan’s premiere blues ensemble, the Northern Allstars, featuring the powerhouse rhythm section of Mike Thorpe, drums, and Pinoy Rock pioneer, Virgil de Manila, bass. Special guest, from Guam, is Deep Paicific Blues, extra added attraction is Smokin’ Stratocasters, the twin guitars of Dale Leavitt and John Kokomo Hoffman. Blues artists from across Asia will be traveling to Saipan to perform, including Okinawa’s Peter Kellogg, high-note harmonica champion.
This free event has a special early starting time of 6 p.m., both on Saturday and Sunday. Godfather’s is Saipan’s top live music venue, featuring a modern bandstand and a top-notch sound system in an air-conditioned, smoke-free environment. The Micronesia Blues Society was formed on the beach in Guam in the summer of 1990 as a weekly jam session.
Since that time the Society has presented over one thousand free blues concerts featuring musicians from around the globe. Their regular weekly meeting is every Friday at 7:30 p. m. at the Mermaid Tavern and Grille in downtown Hagåtña, Guam. NMC offices closed on Friday
(NMC) — As part of Northern Marianas College’s accreditation and planning efforts, all NMC employees will be participating in the 2010 NMC Planning Summit on Friday, Oct. 1. As such, all classes scheduled for this day have been canceled. All NMC offices will also be closed on this day. Classes will resume and offices will reopen on Monday, Oct. 4. Classes and other activities scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, will proceed as scheduled.
Benavente on Marianas Agupa
THIS Saturday, Oct. 2, Marianas Agupa will feature Rep. Diego T. Benavente from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Magic 100.3 FM. The topic of discussion will be the government’s impending shutdown as provided by the constitutional amendment, H.L.I. 16-11, which voters ratified last year.
The Chamorro Talk Show Program is hosted by Glenn H. Manglona.
There will be featured reports from former Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos and former Rep. Tina Sablan.
The talk show airs every Saturday between 9 and 11 a.m. Additionally, the show features a special report from Rota by Thomas D. Mendiola and from Tinian by former Sen. David M. Cing.

MVA welcomes new members
(MVA) — The Marianas Visitors Authority has launched its fiscal year 2011 membership drive, welcoming all returning members as well as inviting new businesses, agencies and individuals to actively participate in the CNMI’s top industry.
Membership is $100 annually and includes detailed visitor statistics each month; opportunities to join promotional events targeting Japan, Korea, and other markets; and the monthly MVA newsletter Tourism Insights with a wealth of topical business information.
A sampling of FY 2011 initiatives include new and continuing international promotions, the Tourism Master Plan update funded by a grant from the Office of Insular Affairs, fresh marketing efforts in new source countries and redesign and redevelopment of the MVA English website.
