Man in burglary case ordered to write 3-page essay

Johnny John, 23, signed a plea agreement and admitted the charge of criminal trespass.

Judge Kenneth L. Govendo also ordered John’s release from the Department of Corrections facility as the defendant had already served six months in prison.

John was required by the court to share, in a three-page essay,  “how his criminal behavior has affected his children.”

Govendo said “it must be apparent from the [essay’s] content that a good-faith effort has been put forth to accomplish the task.”

The court then granted the motion of Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing, the prosecutor, to dismiss with prejudice the remaining charges against John who was represented by court-appointed attorney Lilian A. Tenorio.

John’s co-defendants are Jerry Sammy, 19, and Roger Jones Sellem, 23.

Sammy has signed a plea agreement, and admitted the charge of burglary.

He was sentenced to three years incarceration, all suspended except for six months with credit for time already served.

He was placed on supervised probation for two years and six months.

John and Sammy were required by the court to pay restitution to Jonny’s Bar and Grill in the amount of $303.

The jury trial of the third defendant, Sellem, starts on March 28, 2011.

John’s plea agreement stated that he will “testify truthfully against…Sellem and to cooperate with the prosecution” in the case.
