OVR salutes 5 employers

The employees were Juanito Sambile, Waran Anois, Danilo Alfar, Daniel Ada and Danilo Domingo.

Their employers: Ahbu Auto Care Center, the Public School System, AN Manufacturing Partnership, LSG Sky Chef and the governor’s office.

In her introductory remarks, OVR Director Maggie Olopai-Taitano thanked the employers for their continuous support.

“We thank you and encourage you to continue employing people with disabilities,” she said. “This is a day to salute the governor, our partners and  employers.”

OVR, she added, is hopeful that employers will continue opening their doors to people with special needs.

Workforce Investment Agency Director Edith Deleon Guerero invited private companies to work with OVR and WIA if they want to employ people with disabilities.

Sambile, a LSG Skychefs employee, and Daniel Ada, who is with the Office of the Governor, were acknowledged for their 19 years of service.

Bernice Ravell of OVR was also given recognition for her 15 years as counselor.

Olopai-Taitano said OVR is grateful to have employees like Ravel who never gets tired in assisting people with disabilities.

Ravell said the recognition given to her made her “almost speechless.”

Working with people with disabilities is something she is passionate about, she said, adding that she values the teamwork  at OVR.

“Some days are bad and some days are good but in the end, the question is ‘Have we done our jobs?’ ” she said.

From October of last year to date, OVR said it successfully rehabilitated 33 people with disabilities,  22 to 75 years old.

Majority of the clients are Chamorros, 43 percent, while Filipinos comprised 21 percent.
