Power outage on Saturday
(CUC) — The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. would like to inform the general public that on Saturday, Oct. 17, a power outage is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. and will affect the Kiya 1 circuit.
The purpose of the scheduled power outages is to allow the linemen to perform necessary maintenance to the electrical grid by replacing two defective air brake switches both located on Kiya 1.
One in Dandan, near the Saipan International Airport (Chalan Herman Pan Rd. and Flame Tree Rd.) and the other in San Vicente at the Roundhouse (Isa Drive and Dandan Road).
Two crews will work simultaneously to address both defective switches to minimize the power interruption.
It is essential that these defective switches be replaced to provide safe operating equipment for the linemen and the community when isolating certain areas of the grid to perform necessary maintenance or repairs.
The areas to be affected: As Terlaje, NMC, Botanical Garden, Portions of Fina Sisu, Lower Dandan, Upper Dandan Homestead, Isley Field, Kanat Tabla, Obyan and As Perdido Road.
CUC apologizes for any inconvenience this power interruption may impose on the community and will continue to work diligently to minimize future interruptions.

Red flag raised at 7 sites
(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality says water samples collected from Plumeria Hotel, Aqua Resort Hotel, Tanapag Meeting Hall, DPW Channel Bridge, S. Puerto Rico Dump, Garapan Fishing Dock, and Sugar Dock contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria — enterococci — that exceeded the CNMI’s marine water quality standards.
DEQ has given these locations a red flag and advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.
