OVR said it assisted over 350 people with disabilities here, on Tinian and Rota last year, and 84.3 percent of them were employed.
Dream come true
John Cabrera, a counseling aide at OVR, said he is thankful for the opportunity the office gace him.
Like other people with disabilities, Cabrera said he was treated differently during his school days.
But through the training he received from OVR, Cabrera said he was able to develop work skills.
He did not hesitate to submit an application when OVR posted a wanted ad for a counseling aide a few years back.
“There are some people who are narrow minded,” he said “but the community should know that people with disabilities could do things that a normal person does.”
Some persons with disabilities, however, are not confident enough in their skills, he added, and this is why he is encouraging them and their families to consult OVR regarding their needs, including training and counseling to help them land a job.
