Administration endorses Xanadu

Ada and Gov. Benigno R. Fitial endorsed  Xanadu in its Web site.

According to the Commerce secretary, he welcomes any government entity, whether federal or local, to inspect Xanadu’s files.

He also asks them to speak with him and the foreign investment review committee, “should there be any concerns of an immigration or investment scam.”

A group of investors from China is behind Xanadu which has forged a partnership with the United Micronesia Development Association, the owner of Palms Resort.

Ada said Commerce has done everything within its authority to ensure that Xanadu’s operation, along with other foreign investments, are sound and legitimate.

“The Xanadu Club investment group has met all required financial thresholds, submitted all necessary documentation for their investors and is a sound corporate citizen in the CNMI,” he added.

He said Commerce does not operate outside of the laws and regulations that guide the issuance of foreign investment permits.

CNMI Congressman Gregorio C. Sablan earlier issued a warning against an immigration scam that promises U.S. green cards to aliens who invest in the commonwealth.

Ada said the CNMI cannot control anyone outside of the commonwealth.

“We cannot do anything about the way the CNMI permits are marketed outside our jurisdiction,” he added.

However, he said they will “certainly address any verified attempts to falsely market what the CNMI investment permit will authorize and consider in determination of the issuance of any of our permits.”

Ada  said Xanadu is not involved in any immigration scam.

Xanadu’s investors, he added, “have had to deal with a tremendous amount of scrutiny from the foreign investment review committee prior to the issuance of any permit. This includes substantiating financial capability, providing background checks, health clearances, and a host of other required measures just to receive their permits.”
