CHC still working on reinstating personnel housing allowance

CHC facility administrator John T. Flores told the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee during the third day of the oversight hearing on Friday that not all the employees have lost their housing allowances.

“Some doctors at CHC are still getting their housing allowance,” Flores said.

He added that other medical staff like nurses and physical therapists used to get a housing allowance but it was stopped.

In an earlier press briefing, acting Public Health Secretary Pete Untalan said: “We will be reinstating the benefit but, instead of classifying it as a ‘housing allowance’ on the payroll, it will be added to the existing salary of the personnel.”

He said the executive branch was still in the process of completing this new policy.

Untalan said  removing some benefits like the housing allowance is one factor why hospital employees and doctors leave.

“It’s very hard to replace medical practitioners and we need them badly here. We will see to it that the medical staff will have housing allowance by incorporating it with their salary,” Untalan said.

Variety has been getting some phone calls from hospital employees said they are  not getting any housing allowance.

The employees said when they were hired, they signed a contract which includes a housing allowance.
