The truth is the number of people who go to JATA and the amount of money they spend while on Guam have nothing to do with the efforts of GVB.
In 1994, Guam surpassed the million visitor mark a year for the first time. It was historic and Guam was placed on the world tourism map for the first time. Guam has always been a good destination and we should have received much more in terms of the actual numbers of visitors. Guam should have long passed the 2 million visitor mark many years ago. We actually have been sitting on our own hands for at least a decade of so and have not advanced to any where near where we should have.
Because of this slight increase in arrivals, GVB might tell the Legislature that they need more money to promote Guam in Japan. Senators shouldn’t give them any more than what has been given to them. We need to do away with the parasites within GVB, who are burning our annual promotional dollars doing the same-old, same-old tactics.
We need to teach the old dog new tricks or dismantle this money-hungry entity and give the hoteliers a better organization to represent them to the world.
