Judicial conference discusses sexual harassment in workplace

Keasler said a lot of people, for example, don’t want to be touched and there might be an “incorrect reading” of one’s activity that may lead to the filing of lawsuits.

During his presentation, Keasler talked about the types of sexual harassment in the work environment.

“Be aware that people might not tell [that] they’re offended,” Keasler said.

He talked about the topic “Professional Responsibility of Attorneys,”  while Guam Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Torres discussed “Lawyer Ethics and Technology.”

Torres reminded the participants to learn computer basics like upgrading their virus protection, the Internet firewall, and their computer back-up.

Torres underscored the importance of reading, opening, and verifying an attachment before sending e-mails.

Later in the afternoon, Kathleen Burch, associate professor of John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, discussed “Constitutional Law Update.”

Mark Carey, of the Mark Carey Group, and Madeline Carter, of The Center for Effective Public Policy, discussed “Evidence Based Practices with Sensitivity to Culture and Tradition: A Report on the Improvement of Guam’s Justice System.”
