Crisostimo wants fuel providers probed

“I come before you to seek your legal expertise in addressing the concerns of our CNMI constituents on the fuel providers’ method of determining the cost of fuel,”  Crisostimo said in a letter to Assistant Attorney General Michael Ernest, the newly appointed consumer counsel.

Cristostimo, D-Saipan, told the Variety that he has been receiving complaints about the fuel prices here that remain unchanged even though crude oil costs were already reduced.

In his letter to Ernest, Crisostimo said there was no significant adjustment reflected at the gas pump following the downward spiral on the crude oil price per barrel.

As of close of business last week, he added, the crude oil cost per barrel was $66.

He believes that there should have been an adjustment at the fuel pump for either Shell or Mobil, but to date, none whatsoever.”

He suspects that there is some sort of collusion taking place and the consumers have become the victims.

Crisostimo asked Ernest to investigate and promptly report the findings to his office.

“These fuel providers should be given notice that the people of the CNMI should not be taken advantage of and should be availed of the adjustment that is due to them,” the senator said.
