HONOLULU (Bank of Hawaii) — Bank of Hawaii pledged $25,000 to provide support for tsunami disaster relief assistance for families impacted by the tsunami in American Samoa.
Al Landon, Bank of Hawaii chairman and CEO, said, “Our hearts go out to the people of American Samoa during this difficult time. We want to express our deepest sympathy to families who have lost loved ones.”
Families or individuals can apply for donations up to $500. The bank will work with several community representatives to identify areas of immediate need. Those wishing to apply for funds can submit an application form available at the Bank of Hawaii branch.
In Hawaii, donations are also being accepted at any branch of Bank of Hawaii and checks may be made out to: Bank of Hawaii American Samoa Relief Fund.
Bank of Hawaii has been serving American Samoa for 40 years and has branches in Utulei, Tafuna and Pava’ia’i.
Tinian events

Relief efforts
(CREAM) — The Coalition for the Recognition, Equality and Advancement of American Minorities is announcing the cancellation of its scheduled family picnic and instead will initiate a relief drive for Philippine typhoon victims on Oct. 4, starting at 11 a.m.
Monetary donations are preferred so freight costs of boxes for donated goods will not be needed.
Donations may be dropped off at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion and will be sent to the Philippine National Red Cross.

Mock election
(CREAM) — The Coalition for the Recognition, Equality and Advancement of American Minorities is inviting all American ethnic minority voters to participate in the mock election for the CNMI gubernatorial race, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Oct. 4 at the Minachom Atdao.
The top two candidates will be invited to a gubernatorial debate tentatively set for Oct. 18.

DPW public hearing
(DPW) — Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos, through the Department of Public Works, would like to notify the general public that there will be a public hearing in regards to Route 36 (Chalan Kalabera/Windward) environmental assessment.
The hearing is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Coastal Resources Management Office, Morgen’s Building on Beach Road, San Jose.
