disseminate both on-island and with the international community on issues relating to the protection of the country’s biodiversity.
Rob Hendriks, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Netherlands was in Palau to offer the software technology to run the website effectively.
Hendriks in an interview said that information technology tool is part of the implementation of the CBD Clearing House Mechanism which is maintained by the OERC.
The OERC will coordinate the website , getting together environmental entities such as Micronesian Challenge, Palau Conservation Society, Protected Areas Network , Invasive Species in Palau, Palau International Coral Reef Center and Palau Automated Land and Resource Information System (PALARIS).
Conrad Ellechel, OERC consultant , the software make it easy to upload information into the website.
Ellechel said contributions on information on biodiversity are welcome and these information sharing will be easier and faster.
The OERC is also the operational focal point for the UNCBD, Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Biosafety Clearinghouse, and the conventions on climate change, desertification, ozone depletion, and persistent organic pollutants.
The OERC is also mandated to facilitate a coordinated approach to Palau’s response measures to environmental degradation, protection, and if possible, rehabilitation of natural habitats at the national level.
