DPW issues 72 building permits from Jan. to June

The value of the 72 building permits issued in the first six months totaled  $12.47 million and showed a 27 percent decrease as compared to the value of the building permits issued for the same period in 2008.

Reports from DPW submitted to the Department of Commerce showed that the department issued a total of 114 building permits with a total value of $17.2 million from Jan. to June 2008.

The building permits issued for the first two quarters of this year included 36 permits for commercial buildings with a value of $1.54 million, 25 permits for residential buildings with a value of $1.85 million, and 11 permits for government buildings with a value of $9.08 million.

From 2005 to June 2009, DPW issued a total of 1,182 building permits. 552 of these permits were issued for commercial buildings, 596 for residential buildings and 34 permits were issued for government buildings.

The total number of building permits issued from 2005 to June 2009 had a total value of $113.37 million.

The reports showed that the number of issued permits had been going steadily downhill from 2005 up to the present. A total of 350 building permits were issued in 2005 valued at $28.89 million. This figure dropped to 292 permits issued in 2006, reducing the value to $11.79 million.

In 2007, 255 building permits were issued for commercial, residential and government buildings but the value went up to $16.23 million. Last year, DPW issued 213 building permits with a total value of $43.99 million.
