This resolves the complaint of the taxi drivers who were charged $15 at the seaport even if they didn’t pick up passengers of the ferry boat.
Raby Syed, president of the taxi association, said he met with outgoing CPA Executive Director Efrain F. Camacho last week to discuss this issue.
Syed’s group operates at the Duty Free Shop and can only unload but cannot pick up passengers at the seaport.
“That [rule] was intended to protect taxi operators who pay the $15 fee to CPA,” he said.
Like other vehicles, taxi operators without a CPA permit will pay $1 upon entrance at the seaport, he added.
The taxi association complained to CPA after some of its members were charged $15 upon entering the seaport to drop off their passengers.
Although Camacho made a verbal assurance, Syed said his group is expecting a written communication from CPA.
The taxi association was grateful for Camacho’s immediate action, Syed said, adding that the government should understand the plight of the taxi drivers in these difficult times.
He said they have members who have to pay a $25 fee to operate at the airport.
Those without permit will only pay $1 as entrance fee but cannot pick up passengers.
