Thunderbirds fly over Saipan airport

Trailing smoke in its wake, the six-plane Thunderbirds team made a quick flyover the airport before 3 p.m., circled once more after a few minutes before heading back to Guam.

The few spectators who gathered outside the cyclone fence near the commuter terminal included four children. They said the “show” was too quick to enjoy.

“It was so fast that they were gone before you know it,” one spectator said.

The Thunderbirds are set to perform today at the Andersen Air Force Base on Guam.

They will perform precision, aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of the modern, high-performance F-16 plane.

This year, the Thunderbirds are scheduled to perform more than 73 shows in the states, Puerto Rico and the Far East.

The Thunderbirds will be on Guam today for the first time in more than nine years.
