Nora Sablan of Team Courage, a group of cancer survivors in the CNMI, told the Variety that they are encouraging cancer survivors, friends, relatives and supporters to join the walk from the Fishing Base across from Kristo Rai Church in Garapan to the old Japanese tank on Quartermaster Road and back.
Sablan said it will be the first time for Team Courage to host a Thanksgiving Walk but they are looking forward to make it an annual event. The walk is open for everybody.
“We hope to be able to raise funds and get pledges to support the 2010 Marianas March Against Cancer event which is set for May 28 next year,” Sablan said.
She said they are looking at collecting even a dollar from each participant but they are hoping to raise as much as they can.
Sablan said last year, 57 cancer survivors came out and joined the march against cancer.
She said there are many more cancer survivors on island who for their own reasons refused to come out.
Every year, supporters gather at the Hopwood field for the March Against Cancer event to support all cancer survivors.
Sablan said they have prepared 100 T-shirts for the first 100 participants who will join the walk.
The registration will start at 6:30 a.m. but the actual walk will begin at 7 a.m.
