The NMI’s first Arm Wrestling Challenge drew men who wanted to test their arm strength at the Club V last Saturday marking the born of the new sports on the island.
Most of the 25 to 30 audience were actually among those interested to join but since it was happening for the first time they wanted to see how it goes first so they can join the next around.
Those who tested the water brought home up to $200 cash.
After defeating Daniel Joab in the first round Fitial prevailed in the final over Solomon Stone in the heavyweight division. Stone brought down George David in the first round.
In the middle weight division, Israel Deleon put David Baker down.
Michael Camacho went through three rounds to win the lightweight title over June Nuñez. He defeated all those who came his way in the first and second rounds.
Trench Tech Pure Bred Saipan’s Cuki Alavarez said the first ever Arm Wrestling Challenge had a good turn out with 11 participants, most of them never set foot either on the ring or cage.
“We are now getting the interest level and will plan for the next event in the next couple of months,” Alvarez said.
Club V’s Fernando Ureta agreed it was indeed a good turn out and are happy to donate the event’s proceeds to the Northern Marianas’ Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
They thank Tan Siu Lin Foundation for the $500 donation.
The winners in each division were awarded $200 and the second place winners, gift certificates from Pacific Trading Company and Saipan Grand Hotel’s Aoi Restaurant.
The other sponsors of the event are NTT Docomo and Magas.
