October car sales up by 5 percent

Based on the latest reports of the Commonwealth Automobile Association, the island’s three car dealers, Joeten Motors, Microl Corp. and Triple “J” Motors, sold a total of 38 brand new cars last month. In October last year, the three dealers sold only 36 cars.

CADA president and Joeten Motors general manager Matthew Deets said he is happy to see that last month’s sales numbers are up.

“Our hope is that this trend will continue,” Deets said.

Joeten Motors saw positive growth last month with 21 new cars sold, representing a 61 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

Microl Corp. had 16 brand new car sales while Triple J sold six.

The Nissan brand outsold the other brands with a total of 17 units including five  Nissan Frontiers.

Only one van, a Nissan Quest, was sold last month.

Toyota followed Nissan with 11 units sold and Mazda with six.

“I was particularly happy with our sales at Joeten Motors. We have had two strong months with over 50 percent market share,” Deets said.

He added that Joeten Motors has benefited by having a good mix of inventory and the ability to offer attractive discounts.

Last month’s top selling sedan was the Nissan Sentra with four units sold, followed by the Toyota Corolla and Mazda with three each.

On a year to date comparison, the three car dealers sold a total of 373 brand new cars from January to October, posting a 30.41 percent decrease compared to the 536 brand new cars sold during the same period last year.

The first 10 months of 2009 posted sales of 200 brand new sedans, 52 trucks, 17 vans and 104 sport utility vehicles.

Used cars continued to enjoy brisk sales, posting a total of 332 units sold from January to October.

Last month, Joeten Motors sold 11 used cars, Microl Corp. 10, and Triple “J” Motors five.

Joeten Motors is the distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia. Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet while Triple “J” is the local dealer of Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Izusu.
