For the Nov. 23 runoff, the commission will hire again a private chopper for $11,000 to send ballots to the four voters in the Northern Islands.
Two poll workers will bring the ballots to these voters.
Another helicopter will be hired to bring commission staff who will oversee the election in Rota and Tinian.
Commonwealth Election Commission Chairwoman Frances Sablan said their office is obligated to provide ballots even if there’s just one voter in a certain locality.
CEC figures show that there are 149 registered voters from the Northern Islands.
Except for the four voters, all are presumed to be on Saipan to participate in the election.
But Robert Guerrero, the commission’s executive director, said they won’t pay $6,000 for the Rota and Tinian ballots because no counting machines will be brought to these islands as was the case during the Nov. 7 general elections.
