NMTI will hold its fourth student achievement ceremony on Thursday.
105 students, 28 of whom are enrolled in the level 2 course for painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical program, will be promoted.
Yesterday, Patrick Castro, 33, of Dandan visited the school to inquire about its skill training program.
“They should have done it 20 years ago,” Castro said, adding that the program will help local residents, especially those unemployed like him, to get jobs.
Because of the economic crisis, Castro said he wants to enroll at NMTI and get a certification.
He is planning to study either auto mechanics or carpentry.
Castro said he didn’t finish his liberal arts course at Northern Marianas College because he was working then at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
On Thursday, Cepeda said 35 NMTI students will be promoted for completing the core curriculum, a prerequisite of the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
The core curriculum introduces students to the features of the construction industry, which include lectures on safety and the functions of basic tools.
Cepeda said the core curriculum will help students decide which trade skills they want to learn.
The course, he added, is divided into modules and students are required to pass each before advancing to the next level module.
The entire course lasts about 14.5 weeks or 3.5 months.
All classes are held in the evening, 6 to 8:30 p.m., twice a week, for a total of five hours of classroom instruction per week.
The students who will be promoted on Thursday night include five students in the basic and advance sewing program, nine in basic culinary arts, 11 in basic auto-theory and 17 in Core Curriculum A.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial wil be the guest speaker during the promotion ceremony.
Mcfleen Paul and Joseph Sablan, who are taking the core curriculum, will deliver their remarks after NMTI president Anthony Pellegrino presents the certificates to the student.
