The honorary degree was awarded to the president on Nov. 13.
“I am truly humbled by the decision of the Pukyong National University to honor me with this eminent doctorate degree in the field of international relations. Because my practical experience in foreign relations is limited to my service as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of China-Taiwan,” Toribiong said in his acceptance speech.
The honorary degree is bestowed on individuals in recognition of their public service or achievement especially in international relations.
“Therefore, I now renew my commitment to be the best public servant and statesman that I can be. Thank you Pukyong National University for the inspiration,” Toribiong said.
The president accepted the degree while he was attending the World Ocean Forum in Korea last week.
“I will proudly display this distinguished honorary degree at the most conspicuous place in my office to ever remind me of what it represents for me. I sincerely hope that my performance in the future as a public servant at home and abroad will truly make Pukyong National University proud of their decision to confer upon me the Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Relations,” Toribiong said.
