Court imposes $15K bail on man who broke victim’s cheekbone

Inos directed Kaipat, 24, to stay away from his victim, Cheng Lin Zeng.

Kaipat was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.

In his declaration of probable cause and complaint, Detective Peter Camacho said police responded to the incident at about 10:45 p.m., Dec. 28, at the CYC market in Kagman III.

Police said Kaipat hit Zheng with a wooden stick on the back of his head.

Prior to the incident, Zheng arrived at the market on his scooter to purchase some items.

After paying the cashier, Zheng encountered Kaipat.

Kaipat began speaking with Zheng, who paid little attention to him.

Zheng continued making his way to his scooter when he was unexpectedly struck on the back of his head with what police described as a wooden rod.

Zheng collapsed but Kaipat continuously punched him on the side of his face, fracturing the victim’s cheekbone, police said.

Zheng’s co-worker Zheng Nai Zhong witnessed the incident, and yelled at Kaipat.

Kaipat escaped on foot and was chased by Zhong who was later joined by Zheng.

A responding police officer  arrested Kaipat while Zheng was transported to Commonwealth Health Center where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone, chest pain and minor head injuries.

He was released that same evening, police said.
