The federation called for a boycott after Maryann D. Calvo, operator of the only government-sanctioned cockfight arena on Saipan, filed a complaint against Pascual for conducting an illegal cockfight at his residence, which he denied.
The federation also protested management’s failure to resolve the concerns raised by “cockers” in the conduct of the cockfights at the arena.
But recently, Pascual said the federation officers met with Calvo to discuss their concerns.
The federation proposed, in a letter to Calvo, that it will use her arena for a “big time” derby “pilot test.”
“Should all the participants become comfortable, happy and satisfied with the outcome of the game, we will continue utilizing your facility while maintaining the integrity of your management,” the federation told Calvo.
However, Pascual said if the participants and cockers are not satisfied with the outcome, the federation will use the old cockfight arena in Gualo Rai.
In its proposal, the federation proposed a sharing scheme on the funds generated from the derby: 70 percent will go to the federation and the rest is for the management.
The federation said it will use the existing permit of Calvo for cockfights on every occasion until such time that the federation can acquire its own permit.
During the derby, the entrance fee will be collected as an additional income for the federation.
The federation, however, will not get involved with the cafeteria inside the arena.
Pascual said they are expecting the cockfight arena management to submit its response to their proposal this week.
