Tudela told Gov. Benigno R. Fitial only the salaries of seven police cadets will be paid by the CNMI government, while the rest will be federally funded.
In his letter to the governor forwarded to the Legislature, Tudela said DPS is also looking for one administrative assistant, three wildlife firefighters and three dispatchers I.
“The filling of these vacant positions is of vital importance for the efficient delivery of essential public service and that continuing appropriation is available for the full personnel cost associated with filling these vacant positions,” said Tudela.
DPS earlier said it lost many of its police officers to the U.S. military when it called them to active duty as reservists.
About 100 local reservists deployed to Kuwait recently returned home after completing their assignment.
As of Nov. 10, only two of the 23 positions requested had validated certifications from the governor’s office.
In a separate communication, the governor certified that DPS needs to fill the position of one driver’s license technician and one vehicle registration technician.
