Australia sweeps NMI, 5-0, in junior badminton

THE NMI edged the Cook Islands, 3-2, on Sunday in the VICTOR Oceania Junior Team Championships 2025, but was swept by Australia, 5-0, Monday morning at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

It was surely a tough battle for the NMI whose players could not figure out Australia’s weakness.

In the mixed doubles match, the NMI’s Evan Seguritan and Nichole Llaga were nearly silenced by Australia’s Jayden Lim and Victoria Tjonadi, 15-2, 15-1.

The NMI’s Genelyn Lansangan fell to Australia’s Faye Huo in straight sets, 15-6, 15-3, in their women’s singles match, while Nolan Nate lost to Australia’s Landon Kurniawan, 15-3, 15-3, in the men’s singles.

Australia’s Mimi Ngo and Maureen Wijaya dominated the women’s doubles, sweeping Ruth Bautista and Genelyn Lansangan of the NMI 15-5, 15-3. In the men’s doubles, Shrey Dhand and Phillip Halim delivered a strong performance against Marlon Bautista and Minul Hoque, winning 15-2, 15-5.

Up next for the NMI: New Zealand at 2 p.m. Monday, then Tahiti at 6 p.m.
